Goodnight, Sweet Prince

Today is Leitch’s last day over at Deadspin and Leitch has been quite an influence on Culturegeist. The AMT and I felt like we should provide him with some sort of farewell tribute… some heartfelt way of saying thanks… saying that we will miss him… saying that that the sports blogdom has lost its Vito Corleone.

Fortunately, Deadspin did a fabulous job of saying farewell to Leitch yesterday. The highlights included:

But, we still wanted to do our part. So… we considered a video. Then we remembered that neither of us are capable of creating a video and that we have jobs. This was a problem. So we’ve gone with a video that already exists, but we have a new script for it. Skip to the 2:00 mark for the relevant speech.

Walter: Leitch was a good blogger, and a good man. He was one of us. He was a man who loved the indoors, and blogging. As a surfer, he explored the edges of the tubes from With Leather to Kissing Suzy Kolber and up to The 700 Level . He died, he died, as so many young men of his generation before his time. In your wisdom lord, you took him, as you took so many bright, flowering young men, at Page 2, at day jobs, at Hill 364. These young men gave their lives. So did Leitch. Leitch who loved blogging. And so, Will Leitch, in accordance with what we think your dying wishes might well have been, we commit your final, mortal remains to the Blogosphere, which you loved so well. Goodnight, sweet prince.

We’ll miss you, Leitch. You freestyled when called upon and we hope to call on you again some time. Until then, that shower pic will sure help…
